Credit Union and SMART to “Stuff-A-Bus” for Blanket Days
DETROIT (November 9, 2007) — To help kick off the 20th anniversary of the Blanket Days for the Homeless campaign, the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross is teaming up with Public Service Credit Union of Romulus and SMART for the first ever “Stuff-A-Bus” event. The public is encouraged to come to the Public Service Credit Union headquarters in Romulus on November 16 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. to help stuff a SMART bus full of blankets. The event will benefit the 2007 Blanket Days for the Homeless campaign, presented by Rock Financial and WJBK FOX 2.
“SMART is pleased to continue to help out the community through this campaign,” said Hayes Jones, SMART general manager. You’d be surprised at the generosity of people and how quickly we can fill one of our buses.”
“We are truly excited about this event in conjunction with Public Service Credit Union and SMART,” says Glen Hendricks, director of emergency services for the Southeastern Michigan Chapter. “The Blanket Days campaign is always a very special time of year because it gives us a chance to give direct help to those who need it most. To have these two organizations take such a big step in helping us fulfill our mission is greatly appreciated. We commend Public Service Credit Union and SMART for helping to keep our community warm this winter.”
"For more than 50 years Public Service Credit Union has gone above and beyond being a mere financial institution,” says Dean Trudeau, CEO of Public Service Credit Union. “ Our employees and our members are caring and giving people, so participating in an event like the Red Cross Blanket Days campaign is a perfect reflection of our commitment to the residents of the communities we serve."
The Stuff-A-Bus event will take place on November 16 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Public Service Credit Union on 7665 Merriman Rd. in Romulus. The public is encouraged to bring enough new twin size blankets to fill a SMART Bus to benefit residents of homeless shelters and victims of local disasters.
