American Red Cross teams up with Northwood Credit
Union and SMART to “Stuff-a-Bus” for Blanket Days
Royal Oak, Mich (November 12, 2007) — To benefit the 20th annual Blanket Days for the Homeless campaign, the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross is teaming up with Northwood Credit Union of Royal Oak and SMART for the first ever Blanket Days “Stuff-a-Bus” event. The public is asked to bring new twin-size blankets to fill a SMART bus. It is estimated that up to 800 blankets can fill the bus.
“We are truly excited about this event in conjunction with Northwood Credit Union and SMART,” said Jim Laverty, CEO of the Southeastern Michigan Chapter. “The Blanket Days campaign is always a very special time of year because it gives us a chance to involve our community in helping us fulfill our mission to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. We commend Northwood Credit Union and SMART for helping to keep our community warm this winter.”
The Stuff-a-Bus event will occur on Friday, December 7 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Northwood Credit Union on 30606 Woodward in Royal Oak. All donations will benefit persons in homeless shelters and victims of local disasters in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
“SMART is pleased to continue to help out the community through the Blanket Days campaign,” added Hayes Jones, SMART general manager. “You’d be surprised at the generosity of people and how quickly we can fill one of our buses.”
The 2007 Red Cross Blanket Days campaign, presented by Rock Financial and WJBK-FOX 2, with partner World Medical Relief, Inc. and associate sponsors the Detroit Pistons and Meijer, and supporting sponsors Detroit Salt Company, Art Van Furniture and 93.9 The River, will help thousands of people in southeast Michigan with the gift of warmth this winter.
