I need to ride a bike to the bus stop, can I bring it on the bus or do you have bike racks?
All SMART fixed route buses are being equipped with an industry standard bike rack that is reliable, easy to use, and quickly secures up to two bicycles.  (The rack will not accommodate tandems, tricycles or most recumbents). Watch the video on how to use a bike rack.

Are all the SMART buses wheelchair accessible?
All SMART Fixed Route, Connector and Community Transit busses are wheelchair accessible. SMART has put together some videos to assist you in riding safely while in a wheelchair. Including;
Wheelchair/Scooter Ramp, Wheelchair/Scooter Lift for Connector, Wheelchair Restraint Video. These videos can be located from the Ride SMART tab, under How to Ride SMART

Do the buses run during the holidays?
Fixed Route: On the following holidays SMART operates a Sunday Schedule: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Routes with no Sunday service do not operate on these holidays.

Connector Service: SMART does not operate any Connector Services on holidays except for trips pre-arranged according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

This information is  located under Ride SMART tab, under the Holiday Service link. Do you provide bus service to/from Metro Airport? Yes, Route 125 (Fort Street) and Route 280 (Middlebelt South) provide service to/from Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

I have a Dr.'s appt. Can I get a bus to the hospital?
Under
the Ride SMART tab click on Places Served by SMART  for a listing of local hospitals on our routes. Note: the route number is located next to each listing. Remember to check under Routes and Schedules  to see if this route services your location. You can also check under Services by Community to see where your local Community Transit service will take you.

Services by Community to see where your local Community Transit service will take you.

How do I find which bus to take?
There are a number of different ways to find which bus to take. On the home page click on Places Served by SMART, this will give a list of destinations, or click on Browse Services by Community. Locate your city to find what Fixed Routes serve your area, this selection also provides a list of Connector Services and Community Transport options.
 Once you find your route click on
Routes and Schedules for scheduled times, detailed maps and route descriptions
 

How do you use the machines on the bus to pay?
SMART has created a video to make using the Automated Farebox easy. Look under the Ride SMART tab, click on How to Ride SMART and choose the Automated Farebox Video link.

How early should I have the bus pick me up?
If your destination is 15 minutes away from where you are, you should give yourself at least 30 minutes for travel time on the bus. Other customer could be picked up or dropped along the way to your destination. The longer the trip the more likely this will happen so be should to give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination

 Once I have a scheduled pick up time, when will the bus come?   
If the Customer Service Operator gives you an 11:00 a.m. scheduled pick up time, the bus could come as early as 10:50 a.m. or as late as 11:10 a.m. allow for a ten minute window before and after your scheduled time

What do I do if I need to ride more than one bus?

You may purchase a transfer from the bus driver when paying for your regular fare

What if I miss my bus or it doesn’t show up?
