A Checker monitors the on-time performance of scheduled bus service by waiting at an assigned location and recording bus arrivals.  The Checker also rides scheduled trips to determine passenger usage and mileage.  Reports are made by means of written forms and a two-way radio.  A Checker may be assigned to work anywhere in the tri-county are (Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Records arrival time of buses at designated locations and checks against schedules.
• Documents early/late bus arrivals and reports such incidents to Central Dispatch and the divisions.
• Documents mileage and ridership statistics on Authority routes and complies data for completion of required UMTA reports.
• Informs Central Dispatch of unexpected traffic changes affecting bus routes and provides recommendations regarding schedule alterations.
• Conducts passenger surveys.
• Posts public timetables in designated shelters; may distribute service bulletins to passengers.
• Assists passengers as necessary.
• Directs passengers to buses and collects tickets during special events.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Physically able to withstand long hours out-of-doors.
• Must be dependable and able to work varied hours.
• Ability to work with numbers and write legibly.
• Ownership of a vehicle and possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Possession of a digital watch.

Note:    When assigned to work at the following special events, Checkers will be paid an additional premium of $1.00 above their normal hourly rate.
