Ride the new Gateway Express and you can ride the bus for free the first week of service from February 25 through March 3. The Gateway Express is a coordinated effort of SMART and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT). The new service runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Downriver to metropolitan Detroit. The route travels along Michigan’s first High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane along Michigan Avenue. Regular cash fare is $2.00 one way beginning March 3.
