If your disability prevents you from waiting at a designated bus stop – SMART will provide you with a red mitt that you display when the bus is approaching. The driver will stop this bus in an area that is safe for you as well as the bus and its passengers.
The bus will lower itself a few inches and the ramp will be deployed. The ramp will flip out from the bus. When the bus arrives, please leave five feet of clearance space for the ramp.
Passengers must be able to independently board the bus. Personal Care Attendants must pay a fare on fixed route. Once you are on the vehicle, position yourself into one of the two spaces allocated for wheelchairs. Position your wheelchair/scooter so you face the front of the vehicle. The driver will lock you into position with the Q’Straint™ Safety system.
The driver uses Q’Straint™ system to secure you and your wheelchair or scooter into position.
When you reach your destination, just pull the cord and the driver will release you from the safety restraint.
You will exit the bus the same way you boarded the bus.
