As part of the wage and benefit concessions for SMART non-union employees, the first of five furlough days will occur this Friday, January 13, 2012.  This only affects the administration staff and does not affect any SMART bus service.  All SMART bus services will operate as scheduled Friday.  SMART Customer Information and the Royal Oak Transit Center will remain open for business.  However, the Transit Center located in downtown Detroit will shorten its hours from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

2012 scheduled furlough days are as follows:
  • Friday, January 13
  • Monday, April 9
  • Friday, May 25
  • June 22

This furlough schedule does NOT apply to union employees.

The SMART Administration Offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 17 following the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. During the MLK Holiday, SMART buses will operate regular scheduled weekday services.  SMART Customer Information will be open; however, both SMART Transit Centers will be closed.
