About the Manual
SMART's Bus Stop Design Manual was drafted as a tool for community leaders to reference when planning streetscape improvements along our bus routes. Consistent, barrier-free access to transit is essential for our riders — this manual ensures their safety and full accommodation through universal, equitable design in line with the latest trends and best practices in the public transit industry.
As part of this project, SMART also assembled a Technical Advisory Committee with representatives from MDOT, SEMCOG, and local county road commissions and planning departments.
