What if my transfer expires because the bus runs behind schedule?

Dart passes are valid for the allotted time on the pass regardless of schedule adherence.

Can I use Dart passes on other metro area systems?

Dart passes allow for unlimited rides on both SMART and DDOT in any direction, for the allotted time on the pass.  No additional fees are needed.

MTA: Accepts SMART transfers only in Auburn Hills for one ride only.
Port Huron: Blue Water: Blue Water accepts SMART transfers for up to two rides.

Can I use other transit system’s transfers on SMART buses?

SMART accepts transfers from MTA and Blue Water Transit.  Dart regional passes allow for unlimited rides on SMART and DDOT, in any direction for the allotted time on the pass. No additional fees are necessary.

How are transfers from Flexible Service or Dial-A-Ride to Regular Fixed Route honored? Is additional fare required?

When transferring from the Groesbeck, Somerset/Oakland Mall shuttles or Dial-A-Ride to Fixed Route, passengers will have to pay the appropriate fare and will receive a paper transfer for 4-hours.  When boarding the fixed route bus for continued travel, provide the transfer to the driver and receive a farebox issued 4-hour pass. This will allow for unlimited riders on both SMART and DDOT, in any direction for the allotted time on the pass.  

When transferring from a Fixed Route bus to a shuttle or dial-a-ride bus, present your pass to the driver to complete your trip. Expired passed will not be accepted and will require you to pay another full fare.

How are transfers honored between Park & Ride and the following? Is additional fare required?

  • Transferring from Park & Ride routes to... 

    • Fixed Route and Flexible Service / Dial-A-Ride - no additional fare is required. 
    • Connector Full Fare - An additional $2.00 will be required. 
    • Connector - Senior/Disabled - no additional fare is required. 
    • Connector - Youth - an additional $2.50 will be required. 

  • Transferring from other SMART services to Park & Ride routes an additional fare will be needed to bring the total fare paid up to the Park & Ride fare.
    • Connector Full Fare - no additional fare required.
    • Connector Senior/Disabled - An additional $2.00 will be required. 
    • Regular Fixed Route – an additional 50 cents required. Must be paid in cash.

What is the policy for issuing or accepting doubled transfers?

The Dart regional passes allow for unlimited rides on SMART and DDOT, in any direction for the allotted time on the pass.  There are no additional fees for continued travel on SMART or DDOT.

Can I buy a transfer if I have a SMART/DDOT Regional Pass?

With the new 4-hour, 24-hour, 7-day or 31-day Dart Regional passes allow for unlimited riders on both SMART and DDOT in any direction for the time allotted on the pass.  There are no additional fees for continued travel on SMART or DDOT.

When using passes is additional fare required for Park & Ride trips?

If you are using a SMART $0.50, $1.00, or a $2.00 31 Day Pass or a Dart Regional Pass additional fare of $0.50 is required upon boarding for Park and Ride trips.  The $0.50 upcharge must be paid using cash.  A SMART $2.50 31 Day Pass does not require an additional fare.

How are transfers from SMART Fixed Route to SMART Connector honored? Is additional fare required?

Transfers from SMART Fixed Route onto the Flex Route, Shuttle or Dial-A-Ride service requires no additional fare. Transfers from Fixed Route can be used for only one trip on Connector. When boarding, the Connector operator will mark the transfer to indicate that one Connector trip has been taken. Additional fare may be required. Full fare customers transferring from Fixed Route onto Connector must pay an additional $2.00 for their trip.

Are transfers allowed between Fixed Route & Community Partnership programs?

No.
