On Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026, the SMART public transportation millage renewal will be on the ballot for voters in Macomb County.

Maintains existing service

The millage funds the continued operation of fixed route buses, Flex, and Paratransit/ADA services in Macomb County. This includes FAST Gratiot, SMART's frequent limited-stop express between downtown Detroit and 23 Mile Road with over 70,000 monthly riders.

Funds stop and shelter improvements

Since 2025, SMART has improved over 300 bus stops systemwide with new concrete walkways, benches, and shelters. Additional improvements made possible by millage funds are planned over the next several years.

Two photos, one labeled "how it started" and another labeled "how it's going" showing the bus stop at Gratiot and 23 Mile northbound. Before improvements, riders had to board from the grass next to the curb. Now, a shelter with a bench and real-time display has been installed along with a concrete walkway.
