Southbound stop location

Wayfinding Update: Boxed route numbers on FAST headsigns

This change will allow riders to more reliably distinguish express service from local on our three FAST corridors, regardless of whether a FAST-branded bus is running the route. A boxed route number with left-aligned destination text indicates limited-stop FAST service.

Additionally, on door-side screens, only the destination information will be displayed for clarity and ease of decisionmaking at busier stops (for example, side screens on northbound FAST 461 will only display 461 TO TROY P&R VIA SOMERSET as a static message).

A bus displays "461 TO DETROIT" with the route number in an orange box

SMART is interested in hearing from riders on this wayfinding pilot. Send us your feedback at (866) 962-5515 or using our online form as we evaluate whether this change will be made permanent following a three-month testing period from April 20th through June 2026.

Proposed 2026 Service Changes

Route 100, Hamtramck: December 2025 Update

Following input from the public and the City of Hamtramck, SMART is collaborating with MDOT and Wayne County to add left turn exemptions for buses at Woodward / Holbrook and Caniff / Joseph Campau. This will allow for safe implementation of the originally proposed routing within Hamtramck along Holbrook, Joseph Campau, and Caniff. The most recently proposed route endpoints in downtown Detroit and the Bel Air Center (8 Mile) will be maintained. See updated map below.

An updated schematic map of Route 100 highlighting the connection to FAST Woodward at Grand, one block north of the Baltimore/Milwaukee stop outside the Amtrak station. Route 100 will travel via Holbrook, Joseph Campau, and Caniff in Hamtramck. The route intersects 20 DDOT routes as it travels from downtown Detroit to Bel Air Center at 8 Mile and Van Dyke.

Route 100 is slated to enter service in mid-2026.
